'Tis the season when the SHYG takes orders for and bakes bread for Thanksgiving - we make corn bread, cranberry orange cornbread, and pumpkin raisin bread.
We will do shifts of baking on Sunday and Monday from 5-7 and 7-9pm. During our normal youth group time on Sunday night all youth are invited and encouraged to come and help wrap/decorate the loaves.
Youth who were at YG this past Sunday signed up for shifts but we still have several spots available. Please see below and let me know about any additional sign ups.
Here is what we have for shifts. Bakers are asked to bring 1-2 loaf pans, clearly marked on the bottom with your name.

Please note, because of the retreat, we will not be having a SHYG meeting on Sunday night. (Typically we do not meet on a weekend when there is an overnight event.) We will be meeting Columbus Day weekend, 10/7, however. |

For those youth attending the retreat 9/28-9/29, all the required paperwork is available for download from the files section (to the left). Here is a checklist:
- Retreat Permission Form (includes info about timing, what to pack, etc.)
- Retreat Code of Conduct
- Ropes Course release form (from the Barbara Harris Center)
In addition, all youth attending the retreat must be registered for the RG&L program. Those forms are also in the zipped folder, or you can access them on the website, here.
Please be sure to hand all all the paperwork, plus two checks - one for $125 for the retreat (unless you have requested a scholarship), and one for your RG&L registration (which is $110 per child/youth, with a $220 family cap). Checks should be made out to FP Lex.
These are the youth who have signed up for the retreat:
David
Ben F.
Vinny
Nina
Lily
Ben K.
Sophie H
Sara K
Safiya
Madi
Ben S
Oscar
Isha
Unfortunately we cannot add anyone else to the list, as the retreat center required that we give the final list to them earlier this
month.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! |

Our annual Nantucket trip will be Saturday, June 16 to Sunday, June 17. We are doing things slightly differently this year from previous years. Because lodging is not available at the church where we normally stay (or any other church on the island, I called pretty much all of them!), we will be staying in the Nantucket Youth Hostel. I have heard great things about staying there, and we will get to enjoy some comforts there (such as beds, showers, linens, towels, and breakfast) that we didn't have at the church. However, because of the cost involved we will only be staying for one night.
We will be leaving early Saturday morning 6/16 - please meet at the church at 7:30 a.m. We will get the 11am ferry from Hyannis, having a bag lunch (or participants can buy lunch at the ferry's snack bar, however the prices are fairly exorbitant). We will be renting bikes to get to the hostel, which is located near Surfside Beach, and the bike rental place will ferry our luggage to the hostel. We will cook our own dinner at the hostel, and they will be providing breakfast. We return on Sunday around 5pm or so (depending on traffic).
The cost per participant is $80, which should be paid by check made out to First Parish, and youth should also bring at least $10-20 in cash with them for snacks, souvenirs, etc. Scholarships are available, as always - let me know if you need one.
I have a FIRM deadline of Sunday night, 6/10, for RSVPs for the trip - I have to give the final count to the youth hostel on Monday morning. Please let me know ASAP if your youth will be participating, and please hand in the paperwork - signed permission form, Code of Conduct signed by parent and youth, and check for $80 - by Sunday as well. The forms are linked to the left, under "SHYG Files."
Please let me know if you have any questions!
